A cross-section of the exterior wall structure
The wall is a super-insulated, Larsen truss stud framed wall which wraps around the outside of the timber frame. The wall can be built up on site from partially prefabricated units allowing for rapid assembly without requiring heavy lifting equipment such as cranes. All openings will be fabricated on the ground so that no cutting need take place once the units are installed. Continue reading
Project overview
We’re going to build a house. And by “build”, we mean hands-on construction. Building a house is a complicated and involved task, and if you ask anyone they’ll tell you that it can only be done by trained professionals. But if you break down any complicated procedure into smaller steps, you’ll find a level that can be understood. Break down the process of building a house into it’s components and you find that there’s little that defies understanding. Choose a style of construction that is more easily broken into components and this process gets simpler. Continue reading

Nous construisons une maison!
Ce blog a deux objectifs. D’abord il permet aux gens qui nous connaissent et qui sont intéressés par ce projet de savoir où nous en sommes. De plus, ce blog constitue une ressource pour d’autres qui décident de suivre le même chemin que nous. Chaque projet sera différent, mais ayant profité de l’aide des autres, et ayant connaissance des questions qu’on s’est posés à chaque étape, nous espérons que ceci se trouvera utile pour quelqu’un d’autre.

We’re building a house!
This blog has two goals. Firstly, to enable those people who know us and are interested in the project to keep tabs on where we’ve got to. And secondly to provide a resource for others who may decide to follow the same route. Every project will be different, but having profited from the help of others and knowing what information we were looking for at each step along the way, we hope that this will prove useful for someone else.
